What are the tours like?
We offer a variety of regularly scheduled (open to anyone) overnight tours as well as private tours for small groups. Regularly scheduled rides are camping tours with most meals included and “glamping” packages available for people who do not have their own tents. These tours are usually no more than 10 people. Private tours can be done as either camping tours or hotel tours, depending on the preference of each group. Groups can vary in size from 1 to 30.
Our tours are typically designed to allow for leisurely to moderate riding, with the idea that you will want to stop in places along the way to see various sites and enjoy meals. Rides typically run between 25 and 50 miles per day, depending on the itinerary. Private tours can be customized to include a length of riding that is good for your group.
Launch Point
All tours begin and end in locations that allow you to get to the ride either by train or by driving. For all rides our team will meet you at the launch point. In some cases, we can also meet you on the train for rides that connect to rail service.
We’re Here to Help
Our rides are set up to be safe and fun, with a vehicle assigned to the ride to help out with tour. This means we are always nearby if you need help or you can’t finish the ride. At the start of the ride, you will be given all the information you need to travel that day’s route, including GPS navigation, and you will have the opportunity to have any last-minute questions answered. We will also have a cooler with drinks available as well as a variety of snacks to get you started on your day. These drinks and snacks will be available from the support vehicle throughout the tour.
Shlepping Supplies
We will carry all of your camping gear or luggage (and any other gear/supplies you may have, but don’t want to carry) in our van so it will be waiting for you at the end of each day’s ride. For some rides, you will have an opportunity to drop off your gear at our at our offices near Grand Central or in White Plains the week before the ride so that you do not have to bring it with you on the train along with your bike. Gear pickup can be scheduled at your home the Thursday evening before the trip for an additional $40 (service is subject to cancellation, we require a minimum of two scheduled pickup locations to offer this service).
Itinerary
Each day’s itinerary is thoughtfully designed to provide a moderate amount of riding with extra time built in to explore the attractions you will pass along the way. For some tours, you can choose rides of different length each day to customize your experience.
Meals
For regularly scheduled tours, or tours with meals included, much of the food we serve is locally sourced and farm fresh! We plan each dinner based on preferences we receive from each rider on the tour. So if you are vegan, vegetarian, lactose-intolerant, you don’t eat pork, etc., we can set up the meals to accommodate you without any concern. We can also set up the meals to accommodate any food allergies you may have.
Camping
For tours that involve camping, we can help you with the basics of camping if this is something that is new to you. We also offer “glamping” packages and rental camping equipment. The glamping packages include full set-up and breakdown of the tent and air mattress so that you don’t have to do it. We select campgrounds with modern conveniences and amenities (full restrooms, hot showers, etc.) that are near attractions and services in case you want to explore the local area after you arrive, or go to local businesses.
The Return
All rides always end at a commuter rail station to get you home or back to your car where you parked it. If you did a baggage drop off before the tour, you’ll have an opportunity to pick your bags up again later in the week from our Midtown or White Plains locations.
Cancellation Policy
The cancellation policy varies for each tour. Please go to our cancellation policy page for more information.
We know that bicycle touring can be intimidating, especially if it’s your first time. That is why these rides are entirely supported by our team. If your bike breaks down, call us and we’ll come fix it. If you can’t make it that last mile, call us and we’ll pick you up and drive you the rest of the way.
And if you find that you absolutely cannot stand bike touring and camping, just tell us. Our trips are designed with the ability to take any of our participants to a train or bus station for a return trip home at any point during the tour.
We are the only bicycle tour operators in the industry to offer this “panic button” feature. You always have the ability to end your tour if you decide that bike touring is not for you. We will also reunite you with your bike and/or gear during the week following the tour if you cannot get all of your stuff home that day.
